Along Highway 168 east of Shaver Lake are a series of Sno-Parks. TWO of the parks near the summit of Tamarack Ridge offer possibilities for snow play - Tamarack Sno-Park and Coyote Sno-Park.
Both Tamarack and Coyote have plowed parking lots and restrooms. All California Sno-Parks require a permit to park at the Sno-Park from November 1 through May 30. Day permits are $15, season permits are $40. See more information left or below at Sno_Parks Permits.
Tamarack Sno-Park is at the summit of the ridge, about 10 miles beyond Shaver Lake. Tamarack Sno-Park features a large parking lot and is recommended for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Some fair sliding hills can be found a short distance from the parking area, but during busy snowmobiling times, other sites are probably better choices. The Sno-Park is operated by Sierra National Forest.
Coyote Sno-Park is ½ mile beyond Tamarack. With its north-facing slope, Coyote Sno-Park holds the best snow late into the season. Coyote Sno-Park has a good-sized parking lot. Since snowmobiling is not permitted here, it is a quieter setting for family outings. A nice sliding hill is available. Coyote Sno-Park is operated by Sierra National Forest.
